Hepatologist-Pathologist Questions Liver Diseases

Can taking a lot of Tylenol really lead to a liver transplant?

I was reading an article today about liver diseases and transplants, and so on, because my father was diagnosed with hepatitis C. He takes a lot of Tylenol for his pain, and I just read in that article that too much Tylenol could cause significant liver damage, which could then lead to failure and eventually a transplant. Is this really true? Why is too much Tylenol bad for the body?
