When is it advised to see a doctor for depression?
Depressive symptoms can be tricky at times. They can be long lasting or more short-term. They can come in spurts or last for weeks or months or even years. You may be experiencing them from something with a fairly simple solution such as changing professions or scenery, or the cause(s) could be something deeper and more complex. It sounds like you have recognized that there's something going on and it's negatively affecting your health, so I would say you've already taken the first step for seeking help by researching and asking questions. At this point in time, I don't believe you have to force yourself to see a professional so much as encourage yourself to take that second step. Think of it more as walking down a path rather than taking a leap. You're able to do it at your pace and explore any forks you see, but you should always be aware of how your path is making you feel. If it's negatively affecting you, my advice is to find someone. If you feel you aren't ready, then take a little more time, but always be honest to yourself about how you're feeling and how much help you need. READ MORE

If it starts adversely affecting his teeth or mouth, then it may become a problem that would likely need to be addressed by a dentist or orthodontist. Otherwise, it is a totally common habit to have.
