That depends on the situation.
In some cases yes. We offer Chao Pinhole surgical therapy to fix gum recession at our General and Cosmetic Dentistry of Tampa location.
My dear, gum recession is an unwanted event that can be very distressful. When a crown is present, it might also present an esthetic concern for the patient due to exposure of crown margins. Some dentists cover that deficiency with filling materials but this will only add to the problem and worsens the recession. Crowns are made of porcelain and other materials that are not compatible with filling composites. This will create an interphase that will provide bacteria an excellent area to grow. In this case, the best option would be a new crown if recession is visible to protect area and enhance esthetics. You might choose no to get a new crown so in this situation just try not to traumatize the area when brushing to avoid more recession. I hope my answer can help you. Thanks
The short answer is yes. However, this depends on several factors. I would highly encourage you to see your dentist or a periodontist (doctor that specializes in gum treatments) for an evaluation and to discuss options.
Yes, you can generally have a gum graft done to compensate for gum recession, provided that you are healthy enough and that there is sufficient gum left around this crown for the graft to work. More importantly, you need to find out the root cause of this recession, to prevent it from happening again. This could be due to genetic factors, aging, aggressive brushing, existing gum disease, grinding, clenching, bad habits, etc.
Depends on the extent. But it can be improved in many cases
Yes, by gingival graft.
I would ask your dentist about the materials that were used for the crown fabrication.
Many times I see significant recession around the metal crowns, it’s very hard to treat the “ symptom “ When the root cause is still not addressed.
Yes. A new crown can be placed or you need an evaluation to determine if a specialist (Periodontist) can do a gum graft.
Is difficult but you can replace the crown with a new crown different material.
