95% of times only tributaries of great or lesser saphenous vein are varicose .hence need only selective removal
of these varicose veins Mostly by sclerotherapy if smaller than 5 mm in diameter .If more , than should be removed by stab phlebectomy done under local anesthesia.Ablation only removes or destroys the great saphenous vein which is not varicose ,So it is an unnecessary procedure also do not serve the purpose
The truth is that every patient's condition is different. Some people present to clinic with 1 or 2 spider veins. Other individuals arrive with more severe disease which include spider veins and big bulging varicosities. Depending on the extent of the disease at presentation, vein ablation is at least a starting point for eliminating all the varicose veins.

More commonly after the ablation you will probably need additional treatments which include what we call phlebectomy (removal of the large bulging varicosities), with or without sclerotherapy (injection of the smaller veins or spider veins).
