I am disappointed to hear you had a poor experience at the chiropractor! Yes, the doctor should have explained prior to the adjustment what would be done and the benefits you could expect to receive after an adjustment. The activator (little gun) is also how I would adjust the pubic bone, but I would explain and obtain consent for the adjustment regardless of male/female, and if you were uncomfortable with me (a male doctor) performing an adjustment I would refer you to my female physical therapist. While our main focus as chiropractors is pain relief, patient comfort should always be at the forefront of any adjustment!
Well, that is unfortunate. Your doctor, in fact ANY doctor, should always explain exactly what is being performed and gain the patient's consent to actually perform. I have no idea of your condition or complaint, so I cannot speak as to why your pubic bone was in question. Now, what I can tell you, is the pubic bone is a pain generator in some females. Most commonly, during pregnancy. My specific specialty is not obstetrics, but I have taken care of many pregnant ladies throughout my 13 year career (my wife included, two pregnancies). I hope this helps!
As a chiropractic physician, my education and training cover all areas of the body, paralleling the extensive knowledge base of a medical doctor, with a particular focus on anatomy, physiology, and musculoskeletal health. This comprehensive understanding enables us to diagnose and treat a wide array of conditions effectively.

It's important to acknowledge that, similar to your family physician, if a health issue arises in sensitive areas such as the pubic bone, direct examination and treatment in that specific area are necessary to properly diagnose and address the problem. This approach ensures that the treatment is accurately targeted to improve alignment, relieve pain, and enhance overall function.

Effective communication about the treatment techniques and their purposes is essential, especially before starting any procedure in sensitive areas, to ensure informed consent and patient comfort. Furthermore, patients should feel empowered to request a female chaperone during such treatments for additional comfort. This practice is part of maintaining a professional and respectful therapeutic environment, where the patient's well-being, comfort, and dignity are paramount. Your right to understand, consent to, and feel comfortable with all aspects of your treatment plan is a critical component of the care process, underscoring the importance of open dialogue and mutual respect between patient and healthcare provider.
He should have explained.
I adjust public bones all day.
I explain to the patient what I'm going to do could be a little sore and tender then adjust the add muscles that attach to pubic bone as well
There is an adjustment for the pubic bone but typically only performed on pregnant women or postpartum women (Wesbter's technique) with complaints in that area, every now and then I will perform this adjustment on athletes because they overly strained/spasmed their adductor muscles in their thighs that inserts into the bone in that area. If this wasn't a main complaint of yours then that is not okay. He should have asked for permission/consent first before ever working in that area and explain why or what his reasoning is behind it before working in that area. As for the gun part, if it was an activator that is a low force adjusting tool. If by gun, you meant a massage gun then that isn't okay. There is no reason to use a massage gun on the pubic bone. A pubic bone adjustment should only be performed based on your chief complaint. If you are uncomfortable with this chiropractor, please find another. Thank you for your time!
