Autism: Summertime Tips for Families

How can families of children with autism prepare for vacation?

There are several ways to help make summer more enjoyable. Most importantly, providing structure is the most helpful way you can keep your family happy.

Keep a routine

It makes sense. Because vacation time comes the loss of school routine, parents can really help their kids by stepping in and providing a new one. A daily schedule can be very helpful to keep the structure alive. Structure helps your child with many things including task transitions and learning new things. By having a routine, you might be able to keep many frustrations at bay. Kids with autism are less likely to act out or withdraw when they have a routine in their life.
