Hoffman realized the hard truth: The lack of awareness leads to misdiagnoses
One of the things that Hoffman discovered during his research was the number of people who never get an accurate diagnosis. Muscular dystrophy is hard to diagnose and is often misdiagnosed as another disorder. For some people, by the time the real diagnosis comes out, the irreversible damage has been done. While there is no cure, Hoffman would like to think that his public story would help someone get an earlier diagnosis and access treatment.
