NY Mets Legend Buddy Harrelson Faces the Biggest Battle of His Life: Alzheimer's

Harrelson's memory is slowly fading, not allowing him to drive or even answer his fans.

This incredible resilience is necessary for a strong comeback to this overwhelming disease. No one doubts Harrelson’s strength and fire, especially after being a key member in the 1973 NLCS brawl with Pete Ross. But there is a totally different type of strength that Harrelson is going to need in order to keep fighting as his words are fading from his memory. It is hard to maintain that fiery, can’t-tell-me-nothin’ spirit when responsibilities like driving and answering fan mail become difficult to perform. His memory doesn’t allow for him to drive and the motor skills that made autographing possible have disintegrated.
