Author Mary Flannery O'Connor wrote her greatest works with lupus
Writer Flannery O'Connor often wrote with religious themes and southern life. She is considered one of the greatest short story writers in the 20th century, and some of her best work was written while she was fighting lupus. When O'Connor was just a teenager, her father died of systemic lupus erythematosus. But when she was 25 years old, she was diagnosed with lupus as well. She fought the disease for over 14 years before she died at age 39.
