Charles Kuralt died of heart disease shortly after being diagnosed with lupus.
Journalist Charles Kuralt died of heart disease, and while it might seem unrelated, heart disease is a common complication of lupus. He was diagnosed with lupus only a few weeks before he died, at age 62, but he could have had the autoimmune disease long before he was diagnosed. It's not uncommon for men to be diagnosed with lupus in its most advanced stage, either because they are less likely to seek medical help or because it's a disease that's most commonly found among women.
