Robert Downey Jr. follows a diet that's 30% protein, 30% fat, 40% carbs

53-year-old actor Robert Downey Jr. has had a remarkably successful, if at times turbulent, Hollywood career.

After a wildly successful start in the 1980s and early 1990s, Downey experienced a devastating fall from grace, making headlines for his out-of-control behavior and substance abuse issues. The inspiring actor overcame these struggles and made an astonishing comeback, topping Forbes’ highest-paid actors list from 2012 to 2015.

Downey has been drug-free since 2003. The middle-aged actor is doing better than ever, both personally and professionally.

Through it all, the Iron Man star has aged remarkably well.

To get in shape for his role as Iron Man, Downey did weight training and followed a strict, clean diet of 30% protein, 30% fat, and 40% carbohydrates to build lean muscle.

Downey is a huge fan of Wing Chun, the Chinese martial art form made famous by Bruce Lee. The Sherlock Holmes star practices Wing Chun every day and even incorporates the practice into the choreography of his films.

Downey’s inspiring dedication to staying clean and sober has undoubtedly contributed to his healthy, youthful vitality, as well.
