Though natural flavors are better than artificial, they still may not be best. Tricky by definition, “natural” flavors are not necessarily organic; instead “natural” merely means it originates from a natural source, but can be tampered in a chemical laboratory before it becomes a final product. In contrast, “artificial” flavors are nowhere to be found in nature; they originate in a lab, and at their best, they might be imitations of “the real thing.” Amanda Woener from Life by Daily Burn and contributor to CNN writes, “While you don’t need to swear off natural or artificial flavors for life, [Andrews advises] sticking to whole foods when you can. Because you can be sure the flavors in an actual apple didn’t originate in a lab” (CNN).
