Try to avoid drinking alcohol
You may find it easier to control the levels of your blood sugar if you do not drink too much wine, liquor, or beer. However, if you cannot avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, at least try not to overdo it. According to the American Diabetes Association, women should not exceed one drink per day while men should not exceed two drinks a day.
The ADA adds, diabetic patients should not drink alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach or when their blood sugar is low as the risk of low blood sugar levels tend to increase after drinking.
Alcohol has the ability to cause your blood sugar levels to go up or down. Should you decide to drink, you have to check your blood glucose first and make the necessary steps to prevent low blood sugar.
