Meet Disney World’s Gluten-Free And Vegan Bakery

Disney World has been known for its delicious treats and snacks. From standard park foods like burgers and fries, to its famous Dole Whip, peanut butter and jelly burgers, and chicken and waffles, Disney manages to cater to everyone's craving.

However, the most magical place on earth got a bit more magical for those who are gluten intolerant or suffering from celiac. Now, the celiac patients who want to spend time with their families and friends in the park can do so without worrying about accidentally eating gluten.

While gluten-free visitors can still indulge in Disney's gluten-free menu items, they can now enjoy a completely gluten-free and vegan bakery located in Disney Springs. Since 2015, McKenna's Bakery, also known as BabyCakes, opened a stall in Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney, in Orlando, Florida. The gluten-free bakery also is located in NYC and Los Angeles.

Also, this year, Disney brought awareness to celiac disease and gluten-free kids with their first annual Gluten-Free Generation GF Teen Summit & Family Retreat, which was held June 27th to June 30th. Visitors were exposed to workshops, conferences, and information about the gluten-free lifestyle. It was geared toward people who were interested in the gluten-free diet, but also people who were diagnosed with celiac disease early in their lives.

Those who suffer from celiac disease are intolerant to gluten, a group of proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. When patients consume gluten, they can experience painful stomach cramps, as well as a wide variety of symptoms in different areas of their body. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the production of antibodies that target and attack random parts of the patient’s body when it's exposed to gluten.
