Chocolate

Almost everyone loves chocolate, so not only is this a super food, but it’s a healthy treat  that’s rich in flavonoids that have been shown to lower insulin and fasting glucose levels, reduce insulin resistance, blunt cravings and improve insulin sensitivity. The chocolate that is be spoken of however, is not the run of the mill milk chocolate that can be bought at any grocery store, and especially not ones that have been flavored or have other ingredients such as caramel added to it, no researchers are specifically speaking of dark chocolate. In a research study done at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark participants that were given dark chocolate reported that they had less cravings for sweet fatty foods, compared to participants that received milk chocolate that has a lower flavonoid levels. Flavonoids also have the added benefit of lowering stroke risk and blood pressure and reduces the risk of a heart attack by two percent over five years.
