The Importance of Package Labels
Yet another factor to consider, as mentioned briefly, is labels on the packaging. There are very specific notations that a person needs to look for when shopping. One of them is the GFCO or Gluten Free Certification Organization logo. This certifies that a product contains less than 10 ppm. Another important habit to adopt is reading the list of ingredients on the label. When a front label advertises “gluten free,” there still might be a risk for cross contamination or other components that are added in, like fructose which contains some degree of gluten or flour that is used as a thickener in sauces or soups. So vigilance is still imperative.
