Looking and feeling younger can help you stay healthier and happier in the long run. It's been proven that when you feel good about your appearance, it can help you feel better on the inside too. A positive mood is often a healthy mood, which translates to a healthier person overall.

In our modern society, there are tons of products and expensive regimens out there that are selling the fact that they can make you look young. Many times, a lot of these promises get broken and people end up wasting their money. Besides the basics like sunscreen and sun protection, eating certain nutrients is an affordable and easy way to also fight aging. Turns out there are some ways you can help yourself stay young by paying attention to the foods that you eat.

Eat more berries

Berries are a wonderful addition to any healthy diet. They help prevent the appearance of aging because they are a powerful anti-oxidant. These nutrients help to fight damaging free-radicals and other toxins that can contribute to skin aging. Berries help to also promote the maintenance of collagen, which is a major protein that contributes to the smooth and elastic appearance of youthful skin. Unfortunately, as we age, we have less and less collagen. That's why we find ourselves with more wrinkles as we get older.

It's recommended to eat a daily serving of half a cup of berries. You can choose any of the berries that you like, and you can mix it up too! These can be blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or blackberries. Berries are great in yogurt parfaits, mixed up in oatmeal, or blended into a smoothie. You can also accompany a side of berries to any breakfast as a light and refreshing addition.

Blackberries

Blackberries are an excellent source of vitamin C and dietary fiber, making them the perfect snack or addition to any breakfast or dessert. They're also rich in antioxidants, which have been suggested to fight chronic disease and physical signs of aging.

But, like anything else, eat blackberries and any other berry in moderation, because of the sugar levels.

Raspberries

Raspberries are another excellent source of vitamin C, with 1 cup containing over 50% of the daily recommended value. Raspberries and other foods rich in flavonoids have been associated with better heart health and cognitive function.

Strawberries

Like other berries, strawberries are full of beneficial antioxidants and vitamin C. They also include folate, an essential vitamin. They're also rich in magnesium and potassium, which can help lower blood pressure. Strawberries have also been shown to boost teeth whitening! But ask your dentist before you start utilizing strawberries for teeth whitening.

Wheat germ powder

Wheat germ powder is rich in vitamin E, which is a powerful protector of cell membranes. It's been shown to help defend the brain, skin, and even eyes from the effects of aging. You can replace the use of breadcrumbs with wheat germs, and you can even use it in smoothies or on top of sweet desserts.

Wheat germ oil

Wheat germ powder and its oil are both one of the highest, vitamin-E rich foods out there, and it's an incredibly easy supplement to use. Just 2 tablespoons of the oil added to whatever it is you're eating for lunch can go a long way to help you reap the anti-aging effects of this super supplement! The oil itself can even be consumed on its own because it has a mild and nutty flavor that is actually quite delicious. If drinking the oil straight isn't your style, you can use it in a salad dressing or drizzle it over a side of vegetables.
