The National Multiple Sclerosis Society says more research is needed

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society agrees that diet can play a positive role in managing MS symptoms. However, they do not identify the Swank Diet specifically as having a positive effect on MS. In fact, they have identified that more research is needed to determine if any one diet will positively impact MS. The National MS Society does identify obesity is a possible risk factor for MS, which means that for overweight individuals there is the potential for dieting to improve their MS symptoms. Since low-fat diets have been associated with increased energy levels, patients on the Swank diet may notice that they feel better simply due to the weight loss and leading a healthier life style. This also means that weight loss (where indicated) through use of other diet and exercise programs could help MS patients feel healthier.
