The damage to the plantar fascial band of tissue is causing the pain. Most therapies such as physical therapy, stretching, inserts and radial eswt can be helpful. The heel spur does not hurt as it is secondary to the tearing of the plantar fascia away from the heel bone causing plantar fasciitis and subsequent infracalcaneal neuritis. I only recommend 1 steroid injection and it should decrease the pain within 1-2 days. If this does not last long then I recommend a non-surgical procedure called Orthotripsy to resolve the issues. Radial ESWT is a good form of physical therapy but requires multiple sessions whereas Orthotripsy is a one time procedure for the resolution of plantar fasciitis. I hope this answers your question.

Wearing compression stockings to control the swelling is of great benefit during the day and can reduce the symptoms. I would recommend a vascular study to check for any damage to the vessels and then the treatment can begin depending on the cause.
