Hello,

Thank you for your questions. I understand that you are very nervous about getting braces but rest assured the process is quite easy. Your orthodontist will not numb your mouth when you get your braces on there is absolutely no need for this. There is also no risk of any injury during the fitting process. Your orthodontist and the assistants will explain each part of the process in a lot of detail before they put on the braces. The process is relatively easy for patients you just need to it in the chair with your mouth open and the orthodontist will do the rest. There is no pain affiliated with placement however there will be some minor discomfort for a day or two after they are placed until you get used to them. This pain can be alleviated with Tylenol or whatever you would normally take for a headache and I always tell my patients to eat a lot of ice cream :) Anything cold makes sore teeth feel better.
Good luck! You will be pleasantly surprised how easy this process is! You will soon be on your way to a beautiful smile!

Hello! Her braces are not causing her gums to swell. Unfortunately it is the way she is bruising her teeth and this is very common when kids first get braces. Kids tend to brush below the brace on the tooth very well but they forget to brush the gums and above the braces. This leads to some plack accumulation on the teeth and causes the gums to swell. It is an easy fix. Just remind her to brush the gums and above the braces. They may bleed a bit when she brushes and this is totally normal it’s just getting the irritation out.
This should resolve within 7-10 days of better brushing!
Good luck!

At this examination the orthodontist will do a thorough examination and discuss with you which option or options would work best in your particular case. There are many different options including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign. Unfortunately without a comprehensive examination it is not possible to tell what would be best for you!
Good luck!

My daughter’s middle tooth seems to be out of line from the remaining teeth. Can this be corrected with braces?

Yes, I would have your daughter examined by an orthodontist. An orthodontist will look at her and determine why her mid line is off and recommend the proper treatment.

Good morning
Unfortunately, your body and teeth are constantly changing and teeth have a
tendency to move for the rest of your life. In my practice I recommend
retainers are work 24/7 for the first year after braces are removed and
then at night for life. If your teeth are still moving you should consult
an orthodontist to see if the retainer you are wearing is stable enough.
The other option to consider (once you speak with an orthodontist) is a
permanent or fixed retainer glued on behind your teeth which will help to
prevent tooth movement.
