By definition, everyone has “hemorrhoids.” We were born with them. I instruct patients they are the normal flooding and/or “pleats” at the junction of the anus and rectum. They allow for the anal canal to expand and open during defecation. If the hemorrhoidal tissue becomes larger in size, it becomes bothersome. It completely depends on a patient's examination in the office. Age has nothing to do with hemorrhoids.
