The foot contains 26 bones and 20 joints with hundreds of ligaments, tendons, and muscles helping with structure, stability, and function. If one or several of these bones are misaligned it can cause a tremendous amount of foot, heel, or ankle pain as well as strain on the muscles and tendons. Chiropractic adjustments to the foot and ankle can help to relieve the pain and any strain in the ankle allowing you to continue to play with less pain or without pain entirely.

Pain can be caused by a variety of different problems so a thorough examination and possibly diagnostic imaging would need to be done to determine the cause of your pain. Heel pain can be caused by misalignment of the ankle or foot bones, heel spurs, achilles tendonopathy, ligament sprain, stress fracture, or a variety of other issues.

My son hurt his back in a football game. Is surgery or chiropractic care best for him?

I am sorry to hear about your son's injury. Sports injuries can have long lasting or permanent affects if they aren't taken care of properly. I am also sorry to inform you but you cannot diagnose a herniated disc or discs from an X-ray you would need an MRI or CT scan to do so. If your son has not had an MRI to determine the severity of his injury I would recommend he gets one immediately. I would also recommend he see a Board certified fellowship trained pediatric neurosurgeon and let them make the recommendation if he needs surgery or would benefit from conservative care like injury rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise/physical therapy, and/or chiropractic care.
I have several herniated discs from a motorcycle accident and they are and have been well managed with conservative care. Best of luck to you and your son!

I am not sure if you did any therapy following your car accident but I can assure you, if you are still having pain after your accident you have not fully recovered. Depending on the severity of the car accident, soft tissues (tendons, ligaments, and intervertebral discs) can take up to a year to completely heal and stabilize.

Chiropractic is great for helping you recover from car accident injuries. I recommend starting treatment with in 1-5 days following the collision and going to an office or clinic such as mine that offers not only Chiropractic care but also injury rehabilitation, myofascial release, muscle stimulation, and ultrasound to achieve the best possible outcome for your injuries.

What is an adjustment like for a child?

We would start off just like we would with any other patient, with a consultation and examination, including imaging if it is warranted with the results of the medical history and the exam. When it comes to getting adjusted, there are many different techniques and depending on the age as well as the needs of the patient they may change. Adjustments for some one your daughters age would be similar to that of an adult patient. Most adjustments feel good and are associated with instant relief of joint pain or tenderness, joint stiffness, and muscle tension.

Kids make great Chiropractic patients and do well under Chiropractic care. Seeing as your daughter is a young athlete I would highly recommend she gets under Chiropractic care to help with her longevity in sports, especially if she wants to play competitive sports at the high school level, collegiate level, or beyond

One of the most common reasons patients seek out Chiropractors is for spine and back pain. There can be many causes of spine and back pain. A Chiropractor may be able to help you but first you would need to have a thorough medical history taken, consultation, and examination including orthopedic, neurological, and muscle testing as well as x-rays taken. This is done to determine the cause of your pain and make sure it is safe for you to receive Chiropractic care .
In some cases with rare conditions a Chiropractor may not be able to help you, again a thorough examination and imaging would help to rule out any of these conditions they may not be able to help you with.

Chiropractic care can help with sports injuries because it accelerates the bodies ability to heal by improving range of motion, decreasing joint pain, reducing muscle spasm and tension, improving blood flow, and improving nerve innervation.
Sports injuries have actually been shown to heal faster, and have better short term and longer term outcomes, with Chiropractic care and injury based rehabilitation when compared with injury rehabilitation or medication alone. Many professional athletes seek out and regularly see Chiropractors for sports injuries and to help with performance.
Many times, depending on your insurance, you don't need a referral to see a Chiropractor. You can simply call and schedule.

There is no ideal treatment for sciatica as there can be many different causes. A thorough medical history, examination, and possibly diagnostic imaging may need to be performed to determine the cause of your sciatic, back, and hip pain. The best treatment would only be able to be determined after the cause is first determined. With that being said I have found in practice that patients who experience similar symptoms do best with a combination of Chiropractic care, therapeutic exercise, and myofascial release.
