Teething can give you symptoms like referred ear ache (due to close nerve sensitivity with the ear), increase stomach acidity due to stress and irritability, this can also give acidic loose bowel movements, which in turn can give you skin irritation in the diaper area. Some people associate teething with fever, in reality there should not be real fever ( >100.4 F rectally or infrared thermometer) with teething. The temperature may raise a little above normal but not fever.
Teething, because of gum discomfort may give infants and children irritability, restlessness and decrease appetite.
The good news is that these issues tend to resolve once teeth erupt and are short lived.
When in doubt call your Pediatrician to consult for the possibility of any other underlying illness.

Using nebulizer treatment with Albuterol may be helpful as well as using a humidifier. It is also important to know that babies at that age are mostly nose breathers, so, when their noses are congested they feel short of breath and they tend to decrease their appetite due to nasal passage blockage. Make sure to suction their nostrils often, you may also use some saline nose drops to loosen the secretions and gently suck those secretions with a bulb suction or any other commercially available nasal suctioning device.
Signs of getting worse and seeking medical attention are fever that is lasting more than 2-3 days, chest retractions and or caving of the chest area while trying to breathe, unable to hold any oral fluids or not eating or drinking well, lethargy (your child is laying down without making much effort or movements). RSV bronchiolitis is usually self-limited and usually responds to the measures previously explained, but, it can become worse in a hurry. When in doubt seek medical attention or visit your local emergency room after hours.

Typically if your child is less than 3 years old and getting the Flu vaccine for the first time, he/she need to have 2 doses a month apart. Otherwise one dose is enough.

Athletes foot is a fungi usually between the toes and secondary to poor hygiene and excessive humidity. It is in the same family of illnesses like “ringworms”. It is pretty common in kids with active life styles. Keep the area clean and dry, use talcum powder regularly and over the counter antifungal medication like Lotrimin AF or Lamisil cream. Make sure to Lysol spray their shoes and perhaps putting them under the sun to make sure they dry completely. Hope this brief explanation helps.

Snoring at that age is never normal. Snoring may be the sign of obstructive adenoids or tonsils, which in turn can be signs of sleep apnea. A consultation with a Pediatric Ear-Nose-Throat specialist is almost always granted in this case. There is a strong possibility that your child may need to have his/her adenoids and or tonsils removed, in the absence of any other reason for snoring.

Typically treatment for eye infection (commonly knows as pink eye) is from 5-7 days. Usually the improvement after the use of eye drops is pretty promp, typically 24-48 hours. As long as there is redness or discharge with the eye, it is recommended that the patient stays home from school. After 24-48 hours of eye drops and clinical improvement, there is no need for further isolation.

Usually if there is jaundice, the skin or mucosas will show signs of it. If you are judging the urine color based on the diaper color after urinating, this may not be an accurate perception of the real color. The filling of the diaper and the material the diapers are made may change colors and give different tones than the urine really is. If you are actually seeing the color of the urine somehow, too yellow of a color may be an indicator of poor feeing, oral intake or hydration. It would be a good idea to have a visit to your pediatrician to check her weight, perhaps even the urine and to have a general exam to make sure everything else is OK.

What you are experiencing is not completely uncommon in children that age. Like with any activity, it is up to you to put a limit to it. I'm also assuming that he is otherwise a healthy child with normal behavior and attitude. If you suspect or have any other behavioral concerns it would be a good idea to address it directly with your pediatrician. Hope this helps.

As a rule of thumb, most teenage issues are dealt properly within a stable and nurturing family. If you suspect that there are issues that are not clear to you or perhaps you don't feel comfortable in dealing with them, having a couple of consults with a therapist could be useful and even healthy.

You, as a legal guardian of a minor have the right of knowing exactly what is happening with your child. They also have the obligation of keeping you informed and involved in his/her therapy all the way.

We pediatrician are very aware of what we need to do when we have an infant born to a diabetic mother. The infants that usually have fluctuation in their sugar levels after birth are the ones born to insulin dependent mothers, this mainly because the insulin taken by their mothers, can affect the infants sugar levels after birth. Most hospitals and pediatrician have protocol orders to monitor the sugar level of those infants and we rarely run into any mayor problem. You baby usually will do just fine and if the sugar levels fluctuate, we may need to supplement him/her with extra feedings or in more rare circumstances with intravenous fluids.

If you have a pediatrician, it is always better that he/she examines her to make sure there are no developmental issues. Not walking by 14 months is not always abnormal, there are other factors that may contribute to the delay, picking her too much, not allowing her to have enough time crawling, not stimulating her to stand up by helping her often. I have had many cases of perfectly normal and healthy children that didn't walk until 15-18 months, but we always have to make sure there are no issues behind the delay.
These problems are more common in second and third children, why? We tend to be more attentive to our first one, we have more time to spend with them and we are more attentive to help them along the way, we are also more anxious and worried with the first one. With the following children, we are more relaxed and less obsessed with them achieving certain milestones. This is probably within range, but make sure to address this issue with your pediatrician at her 15 months check-up that is coming.

If you have received your Varicella vaccine when you were younger (a series of 2) and you mentioned you got the Shingles vaccine, you should be okay and probably won't be affected by the exposure. Remember that no vaccine is 100% protective, there is always a small possibility you may get the disease, even if vaccinated and even if you had chicken pox in your youth. The fact you are vaccinated puts you at a very low risk for acquiring the disease and if you do, it would be a very small outbreak. I think you can feel pretty safe about this.

At this age constipation is not a matter of frequency but of consistency. Some babies have frequent bowel movement, some other ever every 3-4 days. As long as they are soft, it is considered appropriate.

Occasionally, your diet may be affecting her, so try to have a balanced diet, avoiding gassy foods and minimizing dairy products in your part. You should be drinking plenty of fluid and continue to take your prenatal vitamins. If she is fussy, it may be related with your diet. You seem to be using the right formula.

It is OK to use Mylicon drops (0.3 ml - 1/2 dropper) every 6 hours around the clock. Use them regularly to maximize effect. Mylicon shouldn't increase constipation. If your problem continues it would be advised to consult with your pediatrician.
