She was a dental officer in the US Navy for seven years and has been practicing in Richmond since 1992. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, the honorary societies of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She is a former representative to and President of the Indiana State Board of Dentistry. Dr Burns provides dental services for orphaned children in Honduras every year, as a member of the dental mission group, Sonrisas Siempre. Her husband Chris, is an oral surgeon.
