It depends on the length of your menstrual cycle. The journey of a fertilized embryo (up to 18 hours after ovulation) is 7-9 days. Ovulation usually happens between day 13 and 15 of an average 28-day cycle. Therefore the luteal phase from ovulation to menses needs to be at least 11 days to allow time for embryo implantation which will halt menses. If the embryo arrives in your uterus at the time your endometrium is already starting menses there will be no implantation. To summarize, you need at least 11 days after ovulation before menses to allow a pregnancy to happen. Late ovulation on a longer than 28-day cycle may well still give you 11 days. However, if your cycle is 28 days, a late ovulation probably will not occur.
