Hysteroscopy is a procedure when an instrument with a camera is inserted into the uterus. It can be done in the office if it is only diagnostic under some light sedation. If there is something that needs to be removed or repaired, that requires dilation and fluid management and is better done in the operating room under anesthesia. Afterwards there can be some discomfort but most of the time non-steroidal medications such as ibuprofen is all that is needed.
