<p>Dr. Toursarkissian has held academic positions while practicing in the New Orleans area both at Tulane University Scholl of Medicine and at The Louisiana State University School of Medicine where he won the Award for Faculty of the Year. He was also an early academic pioneer as a Clinical Assistant Professor of ObGyn at The University of California School of Medicine at Riverside, CA.</p>
<p>Dr. Toursarkissian has won several awards while in Medical School and during his Residency training at The University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Sometimes lubricants or condoms and even a new sexual partner can trigger an infection. The use of vaginal probiotics (Lactobacillus) is helpful in preventing this infection.

How much weight gain is normal during pregnancy?

25 to 35 lbs are generally accepted as appropriate, but it all depends on the patient's body build and her pre-pregnancy weight.

Is it safe to take Ibuprofen during pregnancy?

No. Usually it is done under spinal anesthesia.

Are ovarian cysts a serious condition?

It depends on the morphology of the cyst. Most cysts are benign but the lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer in the USA is around 1:70.

Can I drink coffee during pregnancy?

I usually allow my patients one cup a day.

Can I have children without a bladder?

Yes unless damage has been caused to your reproductive organs.

Is a woman able to get pregnant after menopause?

After 45, the likelihood of spontaneous pregnancy is greatly diminished. Additionally, miscarriages are more common.

Could I have a STD?

Oral sex can result in pharyngeal STDs and of course herpes can cause infections.

I don't have regular periods. What should I do?

Check a pregnancy test and if negative, see your gynecologist.

How often should women visit a gynecologist?

The first visit should be at 21 and then it all depends on the individual patient.

Can pregnant women see a chiropractor?

I do not see why they should not. A competent chiropractor will be very careful and be aware of pregnancy changes.

Are birth control pills bad for my hormone levels?

Not at all. As a matter of fact, the use of OCPs for two years will reduce your chances of ovarian cancer!

When do girls get their first period?

Usually around age 13.
