What is pediatric medicine?
Pediatric medicine is the division of medicine that offers health care for children, ranging from birth to teenagers. Pediatricians are the first doctor a child sees for health care! They help to guide parents and children on a road to good health including diet, hygiene, and disease prevention.
Diagnostic Tests: A pediatrician has diagnostic tests taken to learn about a patient’s medical condition. These can range from blood pressure and blood tests to X-ray and MRI scans. This allows them to correctly provide treatment, medications, therapies, and vaccinations to treat the child’s illness, injury, or disease. This also applies to any child suffering from chronic health issues such as asthma.
Milestones. A pediatrician will take note of the patient’s weight, height, BMI and other statistics to ascertain their development and growth relative to the average of all children. This is a great tool to see if your child is in front of or behind the pack and if there are any issues that need to be examined. These tests are often yearly.
Complex Care: To make sure their patient has the most optimum outcome, pediatricians will make sure children with special health needs get the evaluation, treatment, and overall attention they need. The families of children with disorders like Down Syndrome will need guidance to deal with ongoing medical issues.
