If you want to bypass the counselor you could set up an appointment with a psychiatrist who should be able to identify the cause of your depression and if you need medications. If these don't work then you will have to consider other alternative treatments lake TMS or consider other alternatives.

I also believe in AA and you got to be committed to quit if you are ambivalent it is not going to work or you have been coerced to be in treatment by the law, you will not have a better outcome than if you are committed to stay sober.
