Dizziness could be due to a variety of factors. The acupuncturist should be able to diagnose the causing factory-like bloody deficiency (not necessarily anemia) or even over physical activity/stress; sometimes what we Chinese medical practitioners refer to as gallbladder deficiency. If dizziness is due to a similar condition aforementioned it will most likely help, but may not help for concussions or TBI, traumatic brain injuries. Check with your primary to see if alternative medicine would be a great option.

The main focus is to get your menstrual cycle flowing properly & regularly. Any time is best to start acupuncture, but if you want to be the more conservative focus on your cycle, and maybe after you finish the cycle you can tell your practitioner how it went so they can focus on the treatment. The frequency of acupuncture treatments will depend on the chronicity of the condition and your personal response to acupuncture. Some may take longer to respond to acupuncture treatments and therefore need more frequent office visits or may be very sensitive to acupuncture and will require less frequent visits. It is best to get assessed by the practitioner and ask for his prognosis. Of course, check with your primary treating physician (PTP) to see if alternative medicine would be a good option for you.

Leg problem after an acupuncture session?

I’m sorry but I don’t quite understand your question. You should consult the practitioner about the points they used in relation to your treatment and what prognosis to expect. Acupuncture can have a different effect on everyone individually. I usually tell my patients to wait a week after the initial treatment to see how they respond. Some respond well after the first day and some take a week before they got a response to the treatment. Usually, acupuncture is great for pain tolerance and quality of life; but some of my patient's initial responses to treatments have been increased flexibility & movement without affecting pain level. Again I believe the best thing to do is consult your practitioner about your concerns and/or seek hospital care if you feel this is an emergent situation.

Research studies show that acupuncture is beneficial for cases of pneumonia. Some studies have found acupuncture is best for stroke patients in preventing pneumonia and others suggest acupuncture will help the patient with reduced severity of pneumonia. With Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) various conditions may be treated by various methods. Sometimes it is better to treat a condition with acupuncture, sometimes it’s better to treat it with herbs, and sometimes it’s better to treat it with both. To me, coughing & lung issues are already difficult to treat and it would be best to use a combination of acupuncture & herbal supplements for their synergistic effects. Check with your primary to see if you would be a good candidate for alternative medicine.

One study shows an 88% success rate. Some older studies show there is no difference between acupuncture and other smoking cessation remedies. I think the main concern is how determined both the client and the practitioner are to contribute to smoking cessation. In my practice, I require the patient/client to invest at least one week straight for early morning appointments to help get treated for smoking cessation. Thru thorough research, my treatments involved would include auricular acupuncture, cupping/massage, and herbal supplementation. Unfortunately, I haven’t had anyone as committed yet for such aggressive treatment, but with the very few treatments of acupuncture for smoking cessation as a side complaint my patients have mentioned, they have an easier time cutting down on smoking regardless of habit and/or craving. Definitely check with your primary to see if alternative medicine would be beneficial for your condition.

I know acupuncture will help for carpal tunnel (CTS) because my aunt, twice your age, had surgery for CTS then still complained about it. I have and continue to treat knee pain with acupuncture. It is very beneficial for relieving my patients’ knee pain. For a family friend, I didn’t have needles on me at the time so I used acupressure. Initially, after the treatment it didn’t seem to make a difference, she still had knee pain. But months later she told me her chronic knee pain went away within the month from me doing the acupressure.
Acupressure is like the massage technique of acupuncture, so it will still, help but may take a longer treatment time than the 15 minutes of acupuncture. Check with your primary to see if alternative medicine would be good for your knee pain.

How often should you have acupuncture during pregnancy?

The frequency of acupuncture treatments will depend on the reason for the treatments. If it is related to pregnancy like a disharmony with the baby, always moving around, the treatments will depend on the response from both mommy and baby. If it is related to back pain/muscle aches/affecting mommy, the treatments may be as needed save the excluded caution/contraindicated acupuncture points. Unless these cautionary points are intended for the purpose of expediting the delivery of the baby due to prolonged carrying/labor, the
number of treatments will be minimal. Generally speaking, acupuncture sessions may be as often and needed as the condition requires. A general maintenance for acupuncture during
pregnancy may be but not limited to once a month. Definitely ask your primary and OB/GYN if alternative medicine would be beneficial, then check with your practitioner performing the acupuncture and make sure they know you are pregnant.

That question depends heavily on the practitioner’s method of treatment and theory. When I was a student, I helped treat a prospective student who was a massage therapist; I inserted the needles into his hands and expected him to relax, but he told me he ended up twisting them constantly to have a better effect. Another time as a student, my professor told me to acupuncture the patient’s spine and told her not to move, but she kept turning her head and ended up bending the needles which made it very tender. Often for neck/back/leg pain, I will now ask the patient to synergistically move the limb/trunk with the acupuncture to stimulate the energy flow to those areas for the best relief. Definitely check with your primary to see if alternative medicine would be a good choice and ask your practitioner if you should move or not. Oftentimes you’re expected to relax and let the magic work.

It’s best to consult your primary care physician about that. If you’re concerned with acupuncture treatments and blood thinners, check the aforementioned and check with your acupuncturist. The concern would be bleeding too easily from the acupuncture; I have/had patients with the same issue but I was able to treat them fine even if there was a bleed, usually not. Definitely let the acupuncturist know so the physician will be prepared.

In my experience, I have noticed acupuncture works more individually. Everyone responds to the acupuncture treatments just a little differently, depending on how chronic their condition is. Usually, the more chronic the condition, the more treatments will be needed before feeling a "big" difference. But in general, if you've never tried acupuncture before or it
has been years since, the first treatment will usually give an unbelievable result of relief, like "wow, is this really working or is it all in my head?" Then the next few visits may not provide much relief, but will pick up again by the 5th-8th visits. Consult with your primary care physician to see if alternative medicine would be a good choice for you.

The number of sessions for acupuncture usually depends on how chronic & severe the condition is. If you just bruised your knee, maybe a minimum of 2 acupuncture sessions should suffice.
