There is a ligament known as your plantar fascia that could have inflammation and causing some of your pain. Treatment options are physical therapy (stretching), injections, inserts (orthotics) steroids and or surgery. Hope this helps.

I do see them causing issues if worn for a prolong time. If those feel comfortable and reduce your discomfort then a pair of inserts may benefit you in a pair of shoes.

The best therapy is to rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Sometimes an ankle brace may help.

There are a few in office procedures that can be done to help prevent it but it depends if the hammertoe is a rigid or flexible. Rigid will usually require surgery.
