<p>Having spent over the last two decades in the medical field, Dr. Shelby K. Samuel has established a successful career.&nbsp; After completing his degree in 1986 from SUNY Downstate Medical Center he remained in the area; performing his internship at Kings County Hospital.&nbsp; He then went on to complete a residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and fellowship training in gastroenterology at Downstate Kings County Hospital. This hospital, created in 1831, began as a one room infirmary.&nbsp; It has since grown to a 627 bed hospital that uses state-of-the-art equipment and the most modern procedures. It was at this facility that numerous medical milestones were achieved.&nbsp;It was here that the first open-heart surgery was performed in New York, they were the first to conduct studies of HIV infection in women, view the first ever &nbsp;images of a human using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and last, Kings County was the first Level-1 Trauma Center in the country.&nbsp; &nbsp;Receiving such quality training has led Dr. Samuel to achieve his goal of becoming a successful healthcare provider.&nbsp; Today he privately practices in Brooklyn, New York and is affiliated with Downstate Hospital.&nbsp;</p>
