Most of us have occasional irregular beats, but if your mother was admitted, it suggests she is probably in atrial fibrillation, which is not dangerous, but she will need (if that is the diagnosis) to be on anticoagulants and drugs to either stabilize the heart or slow it down if necessary. It is quite a common rhythm for older people and, if treated well, should not give her any problems.

Firstly, 40 is very young to be worried, unless there is a very strong family history. Heart pain is usually felt as a tight feeling, not a stabbing pain, which comes on with exercise, cold, or stress, and goes away with rest. The pain or heaviness in the chest can also be felt in the arms or neck at the same time. If you are in doubt, it would be wise to see your doctor.

A stent is very good for relieving symptoms of angina, and in some acute situations - i.e., acute chest pain. If there is a severely narrowed artery or arteries, then stenting is also a good idea. The best stents are impregnated stents, but dot let them use the dissolvable stents, which are more expensive and don't work as well. She will need an angiogram before deciding on what needs to be done, also she needs to have her diabetes and blood pressure well controlled.

Firstly, her heart is beating better and can create a higher blood pressure, she is probably off some of the tablets she was on for angina pre-op (beta blockers, calcium blockers) and so her pressure may have risen, sometimes the kidneys can be affected by bypass and this can cause higher blood pressure. Whatever the cause she needs to see her doctor and go on medication if it is too high, as very high blood pressure is not good for the bypass grafts.

An ECG won't show much, but you do need to see someone about this. Is it shortness of breath or tightness around the chest, the latter sounds more cardiac, but there are many causes of breathlessness with exertion and I would suggest you get a medical opinion. A simple ECG won't show anything useful.

It depends on the type of heart condition, sometimes red meat can help, but in other cases (haeomchromatosis), too much iron is bad. You do need to have plenty of fruit and vegetables, and I personally recommend a good multivitamin/mineral, omega-3 fish oils (at least 4 grams/day), and calcium and magnesium. Also, Coenzyme q10 can be helpful.
