In the morass of the Middle East, at least 12 U.S. Marines have been killed and at least 15 more wounded at the Airport in Kabul. Mainly it is believed to be the work of Isis K and not the Taliban who ostensibly are somewhat cooperative in helping the evacuation of Americans and less certainly Afghanistanis who have helped coalition forces over the last 20 years. This is an impossible situation and Biden is probably right in continuing the disengagement and not rekindling the endless war. However, the bailout makes him less popular and Yankee tough with possible usurpation of votes by America First Trumpians who are already eroding voting rights and politicizing Covid-19 vaccination.

On the Covid front mostly southern states with low incomes and inadequate ICU capacity are suffering mega increases in infections. The state of Florida with a governor who blocks masking, mandated vaccinations, social distancing, and mandatory masking of teaches and school age children and apparently has SARS-CoV-2, has acquired 327,000 new cases since last Saturday with nearly 35,000 deaths per day. For the people, legislation, infrastructure repair, and anti-child poverty legislation are all up for grabs and even the masterful stewardship of Nancy Pelosi in the house is challenged. Climate change rolls on, fire floods, addiction, and violence are soaring. Joe Biden used the Democratic slim majority to protect voting rights, health, etc. Bipartisanship is a dream, not a reality. Don't let it become a nightmare.
