Yes, a chiropractor is a board-certified doctor that has completed a doctorate-level program. We are considered primary care providers, just as an MD is, and have the ability to make referrals to other specialists, order tests, etc., just like an MD would. The only difference is a chiropractor will not prescribe pharmaceutical medications as a course of treatment. If you want pharmaceuticals, you must consult with a medical doctor.

Under chiropractic care, many patients have the ability to heal quickly from sciatica. Average patient responds in 10-20 visits. Sciatica is a case-by-case basis It could be 1 week or 1 year or may require surgical intervention if things are really bad. You need a spinal evaluation and a set of X-rays for starters. From there, it may be recommended you get a low back MRI based on your history and how the sciatica started.

Different cases will warrant different treatment frequencies. It is certainly reasonable and customary for a treating doctor of chiropractic to start a patient on a 3x per week schedule. Everything depends on your individual case and what the doctor found in his/her examination. Stick with chiropractic and you will see its benefits begin to take place.

Absolutely, it's worth consulting with a great DC. I would find a doc that does X-ray analysis and start getting your low back and pelvis adjusted regularly. It will make a world of difference!

The nerves which exit the spinal at the level of your lower back can be irritated by misaligned spinal bones and can certainly cause numbness in feet. This could also be a neuropathy/metabolic type issue and/or a blood flow issue. The first step is to find a chiropractor that can assess your spine and (if needed) can get you to someone who can help if the lower back adjustments do not!

Chiropractic is utilized to optimize function of the body, primarily the nervous system. The nervous system controls and coordinates all processes in the body. When the nervous system is working better, the whole body works better. Getting your child adjusted would certainly be a step in the right direction, because you will be balancing his/her nervous system and helping regulate and balance function in the body -- all are important if you wish to get a good night's sleep, no matter how old or young you may be!

Yes, it is possible. It requires patience, diligence, and hard work. The patient must be disciplined and follow the doctor's guidelines to a T. Also will depend on the degree of curvature, level of degeneration in the spine, etc. Nothing is impossible. If the curvature is below 20 degrees, you can manage it with chiropractic care -- just keep it mobile! It doesn't have to be perfectly straight to be "healthy" -- it just has to be and stay mobile and functional!

Yes. It would be helpful to go to a chiropractor that has X-ray. It would be even more beneficial if you had an MRI with you to take to the chiropractor also. I have helped hundreds of herniated disc cases throughout the years.

Congrats on beginning chiro care. You will love it. How long it takes to work depends on your body's current condition:

* Pain levels
* Level of fitness
* Diet, drug use, alcohol use, etc.
* Prescription pills you are taking
* How long the condition has been there
* Overall deterioration of the spine on X-ray

etc...

This is a very generalized statement, BUT: The average responder will begin to get better around the 10-20th visit. REAL healing takes time. There is no way around that.

The disc will swell, inflame, release cytokines in to the body which trigger white blood cells to come to the area's aid.

I suppose theoretically if you could tough it out long enough the body could eat away the damaged tissue and scar over the damaged area.

I know it seems like you don't have time but nearly every time one of these is left untreated it will degenerate over time and cause worse issues in the future.

The whole area can degenerate and the whole disc can disappear over time...very painful and lots of symptoms, usually.

Go have a chiropractor at least re-align the bones in that area!

Chiropractic is highly effective when it comes to muscle pains. When the spine and pelvis are more properly aligned, the muscles are of a better tone because they attach to those spinal bones! Better alignment = less tension = better feeling/functioning muscles!

Tell her the truth about chiropractic. It is gentle, safe, and won't require any shots, needles, or anything scary like at the doctor that they're used to. Tell the chiropractor that your daughter is coming to get adjusted for the first time, and the doc should walk her through everything nice and easy. She will end up loving it!

The knee, hips, or pelvis (or all) most likely are not aligned properly.
