There are many proven ways to manage emotions, but the better answer would be I don't know yet! We would have to explore different behavioral and cognitive-behavioral techniques to see what fits and works best for you. What activity do you like that you know every time you perform that activity/thing you feel calm or peaceful and not full of unwanted negative emotions?
Swimming, reading, meditation, yoga, running, etc? That's the true meaning of management. Being able to find solutions that control problematic situations, emotions, thinking patterns, etc. Solutions are always there, we just have to go digging for them at times! That's where therapy comes into play.
Managing emotions is something we all do. The question is, whether or not we are using healthy coping skills or unhealthy coping skills! Unhealthy coping skills do work or at least give the illusion of working, however, they are detrimental to our mental and sometimes physical health!
Sitting down with a therapist can assist you to dig deep and look for answers within, find conclusions, and strengths. A therapist you trust (don't worry that will develop in time with the right fit) and a therapist that has your total well-being in mind.
Don't shy away from the most supportive person who wants to see you win in all that you do, Yes, a therapist!
P.S. I'm a bit biased of course, but again, with the right fit, a therapist can make all the difference in your life, relationships, parenting, social interactions, understanding, etc.
