Vertigo is a feeling of dizziness that can present itself without warning, giving you a feeling of dizziness and/or nausea that can be extremely disabling.

This condition gets more common, particularly as we age. There are several reasons for this condition and the most common is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV.  The inner ear contains calcium and protein-based crystals called otoconia.  When the crystals move into the inner ear’s canals, a brief spinning sensation can occur. For most patients diagnosed with BPPV, there is no reason or cause for the condition. There are, however, links to trauma, dehydration, migraines, infections, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

In most cases, this condition can be corrected using a combination of Chiropractic adjustments and the Epley or Semont Maneuver without the need for medication or surgery.

The other reason for vertigo is Central Vertigo, this could be caused by stroke, tumors or a neurological disease. There are differing symptoms presented when a patient is dealing with central vertigo and this should be identified in a chiropractic neurological examination.
