Hello world! I'd like to take a moment and introduce myself, and tell you how I came to do what I do for a living.

First off, I'm Katie, LMT, HCA, and I am 22 years old, from Everson, WA. i started my journey with caregiving first. I have lived with my grandma since I was about 15 years old. In 2016, she began needing more help than just things around the house. So I seeked out professional training in order to provide that for her. We (being my family) contacted a local company to get my grandma approved for caregiving needs. I then started training for my license by a local caregiving union SEIU, thus beginning my journey as a licensed caregiver! I took care of my grandma for a little over 2 and a half years, for those 2 and a half years, she was the only client I took care of. In 2017, at the age of 20, I moved out of town and started work at an assisted living facility. The care I provided at this facility was very different than the home care I had been providing. I gained a lot of knowledge and experiences, in regard to the care giving profession, my duties and the people I cared for, in my year there. I am very thankful for. I then came home and began in home care once again, but with a different company, which is what I am doing now. But rather than working with one client whom I know, I care for many different clients, to whom I generally don't know. I travel to their homes and care for them. Although I have experienced very different work environments in caregiving, I love what I do regardless. The elder population lived long lives caring for people, children, communities, etc., and they deserve to be cared for now. They deserve to have their last years on this Earth to be good, and they should be able to get the things they need without worry. And that is exactly what I do.

As for my massage career. I took my massage therapy schooling while I was caring for my grandma, in 2017, before moving out of town. I don't know for sure what exactly compelled me to pursue massage, I just did. Maybe the universe decided I needed that, or maybe it was my need and longing to help people, like caregiving. I want to help people be able to feel better, when other methods wouldn't work. Massage heals differently than other treatments, in therapeutic as well as medical ways many don't think of. It took about a year, with the entire process, to get my massage license. Both during school and after, while practicing this art, I feel amazing, important, like I am truly helping someone's well being. It is therapeutic to the client receiving, but also to the practitioner giving. No matter who my client is, I'm making a difference, and I love that. I always strive to better myself in my practice in order to keep changing as many lives as I can, in what I do. I enjoy learning new things that will help people and the way I can integrate those things in what I do. After officially getting my massage license in 2018, I got a job at the first place I applied to. But I also do massages for my small community, friends, and family.

I guess what I've come to conclude about myself, is that I like helping people, no matter what method I choose to pursue in doing so. I enjoy making people happy and comfortable again, and that's what I strive to do in both my professions. I truly enjoy doing both massage therapy and caregiving, and I believe I change lives everyday in doing both these things from my heart. I always want to gain more knowledge about how to achieve my goal of helping as many people feel better as i can, no matter who they may be. Caregiving and massage therapy are my passion in life, with this need to improve people's lives when they don't think they can. I plan to pursue these passions for as long as I can, as I'm just starting out.

I thank you, and am happy to meet you all! You'll be hearing more from me soon! Best wishes.

~ Katie, LMT, HCA.
