Many women dream of having bigger and more symmetrical breasts. The breasts are among the symbols of femininity and sexuality, so it is important for women to feel proud of their chest to have a good self-image. While it is indeed easier than ever to get the breasts of your dreams, the secret is not in a box of pills, a special diet, physical exercises, or massages. The only efficient method to get bigger and more symmetrical breasts is with the help of plastic surgery. The process of increasing your breast size is different from one patient to the other and depends on the patient’s anatomy before the procedure and the aesthetic goals she wants to achieve. This means that different patients can choose different paths to get the chest they want.

In this article, we will discuss methods available for breast augmentation and how the process can differ for each patient.

Methods available for breast augmentation

When it comes to increasing the size of the breasts, we can’t rely on pills, potions, and massages to get the job done. There is no other method viable to fulfill this aesthetic goal aside from plastic surgery. We have two methods available for this.

While it is true that the most popular method and also the second most performed plastic surgery procedure in the world is breast augmentation with implants, nowadays more and more people are interested in undergoing breast lipofilling or fat grafting to the breasts to increase the volume of the breasts. These methods are different and recommended for different types of patients.

Breast implant surgery

This procedure is recommended for patients with little breast tissue that wants to achieve a more considerable increase in the size of the breasts. Eligible patients should be in good overall health and emotional health and understand that there are specific risks and complications associated with using external prostheses. To achieve spectacular results, make sure to choose a talented and experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. Follow your plastic surgeon’s advice when it comes to choosing the type of implant that is suitable for your particular case.

There are patients who tend to choose implants that are too big for their anatomy and can end up disappointed with the results or suffer health conditions due to the excessive size of the breasts post-op. The procedure is performed with the patient under general anesthesia, and the hospitalization period is of a few hours and the recovery often takes about two weeks.

Fat transfer to the breasts

This procedure is known to deliver impressive and very natural-looking results, but not all patients interested in undergoing it are eligible for it. There is one condition to be able to undergo breast lipofilling surgery, and this is to have underlying deposits of fat in other areas of the body.

The plastic surgeon needs to first find and collect fat from other areas of the body where it is in excess. If the patient has no excess fat in the body, the procedure can’t be performed. The plastic surgeon will assess your eligibility during the initial consultation. If it turns out you don’t have enough fat to provide good results, the plastic surgeon might advise you to gain some weight. At the same time, the recommendation might be to go with implants if there is not enough fat.

The plastic surgeon will harvest fat from areas where it is in excess of liposuction. This fat is then processed and purified, and only the healthiest fat cells are re-injected into the breasts. The re-injection into the breasts is very delicate and on it depends on the success of the whole procedure. The fat transferred can be reabsorbed by the body if the surgeon doesn’t perform this step correctly.

At the same time, the fat can also disappear from where it was transferred if the patient fails to follow the recommendations of the plastic surgeon or suffers weight fluctuation. Wearing the special post-op bra and not sleeping on the tummy is essential to achieve good results. During the first few months, the fat will develop a blood network that will ensure its survival in the area. During this process, a certain amount of fat (usually up to 30%) will be reabsorbed by the body.

Interested patients should know that the volume of their breasts will be bigger during the first few months after the procedure and will decrease a bit after this. Keep in mind that once the fat transferred has developed a new blood network, it will behave just like the other fat cells initially in the breasts. Weight fluctuations, as well as an ulterior pregnancy, can affect the aesthetic results, so patients are advised to be careful when planning to undergo this procedure.

The recovery period after breast lipofilling is shorter than for breast implant surgery, and patients can resume normal activity and work sooner.

The process of getting breast implants

Increasing one's breast size is indeed a process and not an overnight occurrence. What does this mean? Patients need to go through different stages until they get the breasts of their dreams. This process starts with the pre-operative consultation and ends with the one-year follow-up consultation with the plastic surgeon. Meanwhile, the patient will go through a preparation period before the procedure, the actual surgery, the first stages of the recovery period, and then more months until the final results are visible.

During each of these stages, the patient needs to follow certain recommendations that are important for the success of the procedure. During the preparations for the surgery, the patient needs to avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication, natural pills, and even birth control medication to avoid complications that can occur during or after the procedure. At the same time, for the first two weeks, the patient needs to avoid sleeping on the tummy and applying any type of pressure to the breasts.

Otherwise, the aesthetic results can be compromised before they become final. The incisions need to be taken care of and the area must be kept clean and dry at all times to avoid infections. The special post-op bra or sports bra is mandatory to be worn around the clock during the first few weeks post-op. Smoking should be avoided at all costs as it can lead to delayed wound healing and bad scarring or the death of the fat cells grafted.

Even after the initial recovery period, the patient needs to wait a few more months before enjoying the final results. The implants need to drop and settle in their pockets, and the fat needs to develop a new blood network that will ensure their survival. This means that a first evaluation of the results can’t be made sooner than three to six months after the procedure, depending on the surgical plan that was followed.

Breast augmentation

The process is about preparation, the operation proper, and the post-operative stage. This process can take up to one year, and it starts with the initial consultation with the plastic surgeon. The process is not ended after the procedure as the patient will go through a recovery period and is required to continue meeting with the plastic surgeon regularly for follow-up consultations during the first year post-op. It is important for the patient to understand the process of breast augmentation before scheduling their breast augmentation procedure.
