Additionally, taking metformin with meals can help reduce GI discomfort for many individuals, allowing them to effectively manage their blood sugar levels with this medication. Regarding the constipation you will need to ask your doctor about other contributing medications or undiagnosed conditions. Hypothyroidism can actually cause constipation. Also low fiber intake and dehydration can contribute. You can also consider a trial of probiotics and see if that helps. Metformin should also be taken with B12 vitamin due to risk of B12 deficiency.
