Type 2 Diabetics Ignore Heart Health, Study Says

Diabetic Cardiomyopathy

This disease damages the function and the hearts structure leading to arrhythmias and heart failure.

How does diabetes affect heart disease risk?

People with high blood sugar level has an increased risk of diabetic heart disease. Heart disease risk is affected by diabetes in three ways. Just like smoking, and high cholesterol is the main risk factors for heart disease, so is diabetes. Type 2 diabetes has an equal risk of heart attack as those who have had the disease. When diabetes combines with other risk factors, it increases the risk of heart disease. Research is still going on, but it’s evident that diabetes and other factors like obesity, overweight and metabolic syndrome interact and cause harmful changes to the heart. Diabetes increases the risk of severe heart problems. Also, those with diabetic heart disease have less success with heart disease treatments.
