10 Common Problems with CPAP Machines

Problem 2: The user is unaccustomed to using the CPAP device

As with most new and unfamiliar things, the prospect of using a CPAP machine can be daunting. During the first few times that the machine is used, it might feel strange to breathe out because of the air pressure. Worrying about leaks might also cause the user to remain stiff in bed and subsequently, have trouble sleeping. To get over the unfamiliarity, the key is to slowly get used to the machine.

Solution/s:

Practice using the machine while awake.

Start by wearing only the mask for short periods of time. Move on to wearing both the mask and hose at the same time. Finally, try activating the machine while wearing the mask and the hose. These steps can be done while awake and can be incorporated into some activities around the house such as watching TV or lounging on the couch.
