Leukocytoclastic vasculitis

Leukocytoclastic vasculitis

Leukocytoclastic vasculitis is also known as hypersensitivity vasculitis and the term ‘vasculitis’ means ‘inflammation of the blood vessels. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis occurs when the small blood vessels found under the skin become inflamed and shrivel up and die. This response, in turn, leads to the formation of purple spots, known as purpura, which can be found on the skin of the ankles or legs. The spots associated with leukocytoclastic vasculitis generally go away on their own when UC is in remission.
