CF is least common in Asians and African Americans. In fact, the most common cases are seen in Caucasians. There is no gender ratio as this disease can affect either male or female. It is not gender specific. Andersen discovered the disease while doing an autopsy on a deceased child. She discovered a lesion on the child's pancreas and decided to try to treat this new disease in living patients with the same symptoms as well, after having constructed a test that proved effective.
