6. Ask your doctor about taking vitamins
Your body uses extra nutrients such as vitamins and minerals while healing, especially from such a traumatic event as a lung transplant. Vitamins help your body’s processes work, while minerals are used by your body in physically producing and repairing cells. If you take a multivitamin, perhaps speak with your doctor to ask about increasing the dose. If you do not take vitamins, now might be a good time to start.
Vitamin C especially is a beneficial supplement. It has a role in the process your body uses to heal wounds. There is evidence that supplementing vitamin C, even if you are not deficient, can cause your wounds to heal more quickly.
A multivitamin might be part of the drug regime prescribed by your doctor as part of the surgery. As always, talk with and listen to your doctor about your supplementation. Supplementing some vitamins may not be a wise choice alongside the surgery, and your doctor will know more.
