7. Nursing home scandals: Patients left sick, dying, raped and ignored.
It is a difficult decision to put a loved one into a nursing home; many feel as if it means they have failed as a spouse, son, or daughter. There is a desire to take care of them yourself, but at a certain stage, it often is not feasible. In these scenarios, people may fear that their loved ones are not getting the treatment they could give them themselves, but they certainly believe that they can rely on basic safety. However, closer looks in America's nursing homes found that many of the nation's elderly are ignored, raped, and sometimes even left for dead.
Unfortunately, some predators view the elderly as easy prey, as they often cannot fight back. In America's nursing homes, unjust treatment is often hard to back up, as perpetrators state that the victim is senile. The vast majority of these crimes go unpunished and are never discussed.
