2017: A Year of New Treatment and Care Options for Diabetics Worldwide

The difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes

For clarification, type 1 diabetes is typically insulin dependent and usually strikes in childhood.  Type 2 diabetes, however, used to be referred to as adult-onset diabetes and is usually associated with high levels of weight.  Type 2 isn’t usually treated with insulin but if left untreated, it can have serious side effects.  The term adult onset is not as widely used anymore, especially since more and more children and youth are being diagnosed with the disorder.
