Diet, exercise and sleep
Some physicians recommend protein containing diet and diet that contain low fat and carbohydrate. A normal weight should be maintained to lessen the burden for weak muscles. Those taking steroids should take sodium-restricted diets.
Weak abdominal muscles and immobility may lead to constipation in young men. A diet with vegetables, fresh fruits, and fluid fiber can improve digestion.
People with muscular dystrophy need to exercise to improve emotional and physical health. They should participate in low-impact activities such as swimming.
As the muscles weaken, mowing or turning around may become challenging, and most of the time the patients need help when sleeping.
