5. Take the appropriate medication and monitor your blood sugar levels

At least 50 percent of those with diabetes fail to take their medication regularly or test their blood. A poor understanding of instructions, fear of side effects, financial concerns or lack of follow-up are only few reasons why you may fail to take your medications. You need to understand why you need your medications and know how to take them.

Test your blood on a daily basis and keep a journal of the scores. This will give you and your doctor a great way to control diet, change medications, and keep you from the risk of complications.
