Main goals of treatment
The main treatment goal is to cure the cancer without causing long-term side effects. If the child is old enough that his/her muscles and bones are fully developed, treatment is usually that given to adults, to include radiation. For kids not mature enough, chemotherapy will likely be used instead of radiation as the gamma rays can impede normal growth of bones and muscles. (American Cancer Society)
